Dear Mr. Darrow:

I would like to personally invite you and other members of your organization to attend a meeting between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Entergy Nuclear Generation Company in which the NRC staff will discuss with Entergy our annual assessment of the safety performance of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station.

The meeting will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 18, 2003, at the Vernon TownHall/Library, 567 Governor Hunt Road, Vernon, Vermont, and is open to the public for observation. At the meeting we will briefly discuss our Reactor Oversight Process and then discuss with Entergy our assessment of their safety performance and their response to our assessment. The NRC staff will be available following the meeting to answer questions from you and members of the public regarding the safety performance of Vermont Yankee and the role of the NRC in ensuring safe plant operations.

The NRC recently completed its annual assessment of the safety performance of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station in accordance with the NRC Reactor Oversight Process. Our assessment used the most recent performance indicator data and inspection findings from January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2002. We described our assessment results in a letter to the Entergy Nuclear Generation Company on March 3, 2003. The letter can be found at:
