SUMMARY

2011-004: PREPARATION AND SCHEDULING OF OPERATOR LICENSING EXAMINATIONS: PALISADES NUCLEAR PLANT

Dear Mr. Vitale:

We have received your Letter PNP 2012-031, dated April 11, 2012. In that letter, you included a revised NRC Form 536, Operator Licensing Examination Data sheet for the Palisades Nuclear Plant. You requested initial operator licensing examinations in October 2012, September 2014, and August 2016.

In response, we have previously rescheduled an initial operator licensing exam for the weeks of October 1 and October 8, 2012, with an on-site validation date scheduled for the week of September 3, 2012. Additionally, we had already scheduled you for an initial operator licensing exam the weeks of September 8 and 15, 2014, with an on-site validation scheduled for the week of August 18, 2014. This date has not changed. For 2016, we moved the initial operator licensing exam from May 2016 to the weeks of August 1 and 8, 2016, with an on-site validation date of the week of July 4, 2016.

We understand that your staff will develop these examinations. Because your previous corporate letter indicated that there were more than nine applicants being considered for each of these examinations, the examinations were scheduled for two weeks. Please inform us if the number of candidates change for any examination as this will impact the examination schedule.

A supplementary letter will be sent to the training department approximately 120 days prior to the examination informing the training manager of the chief examiners name. The letter will also outline examination security expectations, list the materials required by the NRC to conduct the examination, reconfirm the examination date, and reconfirm the number of candidates you have in the training program.
