Followingthatwork,AmbricEngineeringsentthegaugetoits manufacturerformaintenance.OnJuly10,themanufacturer notifiedAmbricthatthesourcerodwasmissingfromthegauge.

Thesource,whichisasmall,lessthanhalf-inch,steelcapsule, was6millicuriesofcesium-137.It'sbelievedthesourcebroke offatthejobsite.Ambrichashiredacontractortoperformsurveystolocatethemissingsealedsource.Todate,theseeffortshavenotbeen successfulinlocatingthesourcerod.AnNRCinspectorwassent tothesiteonJuly10toreviewlicenseeactionsandtofollow uponthelossofthesource.Itispossiblethatthesourcerodmayhavebrokenoffatthejobsiteandbeenpickedupbyamemberofthepublic.Any attempttotamperwiththeradioactivesourcewouldsubjecta persontoradiationexposure.Handlingthesourcewouldcarrya riskofradiationinjury.AnyoneseeingthesourceshouldleaveitaloneandreportitslocationtotheNRCOperationsCenterat(301)816-5100.The OperationsCenterwillacceptcollectcallsregardingthis

matter.#
