Dear Mr. Danten:

/

In connection with SDG6E's Motion for Terndnatir. of Proceeding in Docker No. 's 50-582 and 50-563, Cotmsel for the Mtc Staff, Mr. Bordenick, inquired as tot the present condition of the Smdesert site. That is to say, what, it any, dis-turbances of the cite were made by cmr.w and whether any restoration remins to be done. *mru furnishes the following infonnation concerning alteration of the site and its present carvittim:

1) In July 1979, SDGSE obtained ownership of the site.
2) A 260-foot meteorological tower was installed in 1975 and renains in place.

A small instrunentation shed (approximately 8' x 12') is located near the tower and the entire area (.wmdmately 40' x 50') is enclosed by an B' chain-linked fence. Guy wires fran the tower extend beyond the main en-closure, but are fenced, off at the base.

Although the tower itself is not currently' in use, SDG6E plans to leave the tower intact to be usad in future PSD air quality monitoring at the site.

An accelograph is still in operation gathering aaf =fe information.

3) 51 borings and several test wells were drilled on and in the vicinity of the site. All are now capped.

,-====~4)*d12-kVelectricdistributionlinewasconstructedtodeliverpowertothe instrunentation shed. This line and the associated access road extend

^

owcoximately two miles from the agricJ.tural area to the location of the meteorological tower.

5) A previously ' existing jeep trail uns extended awicaimately 1500 feet to provide access to the meteorological tomr area. All access to the site has been off of existing roads located on the mesa. No new roads originating from below the mesa have been built.
6) All digging and trenching performed in connection with archaeological and geological investigations have been backfilled and placed in as near g

original condition as possible.
