SAFETY EVALUATION OF WELD OVERLAY REPAIR OF A TWO-INCH LINE IN RECIRCULATION SYSTEM (TAC NO. M86331) i By the letter dated April 19, 1993, as supplemented April 30, 1993,.

Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO) requested approval of its proposed repair of a weld (02-F2B)_ in the recirculation piping system at Quad Cities Station, Unit 2.

The proposed repair is based on the guidance in Generic Letter 88-01, "NRC Position on Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC) in BWR-Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping."

Based on our review of your request, we have concluded that the proposed repair is acceptable for one cycle of operation. After that period, you.

should either replace the subject weld or perform a-Code repair during the next refueling outage.

By letter dated May 24, 1993, _we informed-you about our conclusion 'and we indicated that our detailed safety evaluation would be provided under separate cover.
