Carolina Power&Light Company (CP&L)hereby transmits one original and forty copies of the following three tables regarding activity inputs to the Volume Reduction System (VRS): 1.Filtex Sludge Activity Calculations (Normal)2.Filter Sludge Activity Calculations (Design)3.Feed Streams to the Volume Reduction System (2 Unit Operation)

These tables have been requested by your Mr.Prasad Kadambi for use in preparation of the Draft Environmental Statement (DES).We understand that data other than that supplied by our letter of December 13, 1982 is being used by the staff in calculating the activity levels of the volume reduction system output.Specifically, the decontamination factor of the volume reduction system and the selection of inputs to the volume reduction system are being based on extremely conservative assumptions made by the staff in the absence of detailed technical information on certain system processes.

Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-400 AND 50-401 SAFETY REVIEW QUESTION RESPONSE SUPPLEMENT

Dear Mr. Denton:

Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) hereby transmits one original and forty copies of the following three tables regarding activity inputs to the Volume Reduction System (VRS):

1. Filtex Sludge Activity Calculations (Normal)
2. Filter Sludge Activity Calculations (Design)
3. Feed Streams to the Volume Reduction System (2 Unit Operation)

These tables have been requested by your Mr. Prasad Kadambi for use in preparation of the Draft Environmental Statement (DES). We understand that data other than that supplied by our letter of December 13, 1982 is being used by the staff in calculating the activity levels of the volume reduction system output. Specifically, the decontamination factor of the volume reduction system and the selection of inputs to the volume reduction system are being based on extremely conservative assumptions made by the staff in the absence of detailed technical information on certain system processes. We are presently obtaining more test data to support the presently presented process information and trust that provision of the information will allow the staff Iyol 8QQQ02 > lto asmo7O~"~OSOOos<O DR @DOCK pQR 9
