Section D.4 Tabletop Purpose To demonstrate and gain NRC feedback on the following cases:

  • Case 1: Platform vendor has a NRC-approved Software Program Manual (SPM) for application software
  • Case 2: Platform vendor does not have a NRC-approved SPM for application software 2

Case 1: Section D.4 content for a NRC-Approved SPM

  • From Teleperm SPM SER:

Software plans developed on a project-specific basis, in compliance with the conditions set forth in the SPM, and satisfying the Application Specific Action Item (ASAI) will be considered by the NRC to have been developed in a high-quality manner consistent with a level of safety commensurate with the importance of the safety functions accomplished as described herein.

3

Case 1: Section D.4 content for a NRC-Approved SPM

  • For licensees referencing a NRC-approved SPM, the licensee/vendor would present any changes to the plans/processes described in the SPM during the pre-application meeting.

- Describe how the licensee proposed to use the platform design and application software in plant-specific applications.

- Reference the SPM and address the ASAIs.

- If exceptions to the SPM were taken, these would be included in the LAR and subject to NRC review.

4

Case 2: Section D.4 content for a SPM without NRC Approval

  • During the pre-application meeting, the licensee/vendor would identify the development documents (comparable to a SPM) expected to be available during the LAR review.

- Describe the vendors application development framework.

- Framework would describe the Section D.4.1 system development process activities based on the vendors processes.

5

Case 2: Section D.4 content for a SPM without NRC Approval Case 2 example: D.4.2.5 Software Configuration Management Processes. Per ISG-06 R2, Demonstration for the software CM processes will address the following:

  • Identifies the responsibilities and authorities for managing and accomplishing the planned software CM activities.
  • Identifies the activities to be performed in applying software CM to the project.
  • Identifies the required coordination of software CM activities with the other activities in the project.
  • Identifies tools used for software CM activities.

6

Case 2: Section D.4 content for a SPM without NRC Approval Case 2 example (continued): LAR material addressing process description for SCMP

  • Example intended to provide type of information and level of detail
  • Addresses ISG-06 R2 Section D.4.2.5 criteria 7
