- JANUARY 3, 2018 GLOBAL NUCLEAR FUELS - AMERICAS On January 3, 2018, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff held a telephone conference call with staff from Global Nuclear Fuels - Americas to discuss issues related to a potential exemption request from the facility. Global Nuclear Fuels-Americas is considering sending in an exemption request in response to the closure of an issue submitted to the Division of Fuel Cycle Safety, Safeguards, and Environmental Review (FCSE) using Regulatory Issue Resolution Protocol 14-14 on July 27, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System [ADAMS] Accession Number ML15217A488). The request is for clarification of the terms spreadable radioactivity and unplanned as they pertain to reporting requirements described in relevant parts of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 40 and 70. On October 5, 2018, FCSE issued a letter of closure (ADAMS ML18236A321) on the resolution protocol submission, stating that existing regulatory guidance is adequate to address the issues raised.
