degradation.OnFebruary8,anine-memberNRCteamwillbeginthefirstofthreelicenserenewalinspectionsatCalvertCliffs.This "scopingandscreening"inspection,willverifythatthe company'slicenserenewalprogramisimplementedconsistentwith thecompany'slicenserenewalapplicationandpertinent regulations.Subsequentinspectionswillverifythatprograms areinplacetomanagethematerialconditionsofthesystems, structuresandcomponents.Theinspectionisexpectedtolastaweek.Aninspectionreportwillbeissuedabout45dayslater.Membersoftheteam willmeetwiththepublicfollowingissuanceofthereportto discusstheirfindingsanditsrelevance.Themeetingwillbe announcedwellinadvance.UnderNRCregulations,theoriginaloperatinglicenseforanuclearpowerplantisissuedforupto40years.Thelicensemay berenewedforuptoanadditional20yearsifNRCrequirements aremet.ThecurrentoperatinglicensesforCalvertCliffswill expireonJuly31,2014,forUnit1andonAugust13,2016,for Unit2.BG&EsubmitteditsapplicationforlicenserenewalinApriloflastyear.
