March 18, 2008 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 RE: Docket 50-156; 10 CFR Part 50.64C

Dear Sirs:

The following information'is.provided in conformance with 10 CFR Part 50.64C, Limitations on the use of highly enriched uranium (HEU) in domestic-non-power reactors. The University of Wisconsin Nuclear Reactor (UWNR) has been made ..aware that> funding will be made available for the conversion from HEU fuel-to LEU fuel during the 2009 Federal fiscal year. A certification that Federal Government funding for conversion is guaranteed has not been received. The UWNR is currently in the process of developing a proposal with supporting safety analyses to include all necessary changes in the license, facility and procedures to convert the reactor to General Atomics' UZrH fuel with 30'/o uranium content, enriched to 20% in the isot, ope U-235. The anticipated date of submission of this proposal is August 1, 2008. It is estimated that the order for conversion from the Commission would be received on or around August 3,-2009. Refueling efforts would commence in earnest following receipt of the conversion order with an anticipated completion date of September 29, 2009.Sincerely, Robert J. Agasie Reactor Director
