These tests will be carried out every six months by Dr. J. Kastner in the presence of the Radiolo61 cal Safety Officer, Mr. J. B. Stickney. The initial survey will also be carr.ie d out in the same way by the saw people. Should any service or repair be required, the source vill be returned to the manufacturer, (in a hermetically sealed metal container, if necessary).

Enclosed is our application for' license to obtain two sealed beta-ray sources. These sources have been mam factured and are only waiting for license numbers before being shipped to us. We are anxious to use these in our AEC Industrial Developnent Contract No. AT(11-1)-746.

We vould appreciate it if you would make your decision at the earliest convenience and let us know by collect wire. If you let us have the proper license numbers in this way we can, in turn, wire the manufacturers and expedite shipment of the sources.

As you see, I have changed my work address without having to move my home. My associations here have been very pleasant so far and I look forward to an active and rewarding relationship. Your letter of 6 September 1960 came just at a time when our Radioisotope Ccx:Imittee was in the process of reviewing our various licenses and prospective radioisotope needs. We have come to the considered decision that an application should be made for a broad license.

The additional information you require for your paragraph 2 vill be submitted shortly in support of the broad license application.

We vant the Sr-89 to use as a substitute for Sr-90 in studying fool-proof methods of mountin6 beta-ray emitters for use as extended sources in the X-ray generator project which we are investigating under contract with the A.E.C.

O.I.D.

We vant the Pm-147 and Kr-85 to use as Bremsstrahlung cources to study their X-ray radiographic and fluoroscopic capabilities. The Pm-147 was given as "any" form because we were not sure whether we would make our own sealed source or purchase one.

The Kr-85 sealed source has been purchased from USRC to be used as is in the fluoroscopic studies and I believe the information previously submitted in the prior licensing actions concerning our other Kr-85 sources should be sufficient to enable you to make the necessary amendment for this particular source. We anxiously avait your action in this matter of the U. S. Radium Source. If there are further questions, please let me know at your earliest convenience.
