As President of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, I am writing to express support for the license renewal of Units 2 and 3 at the Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, New York. We represent hundreds of businesses within Orange County and the Hudson Valley region. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous issues in connection with the license renewal application, including the effect of relicensing on land values in the area near the plants. The continued operation of Indian Point is vital to economic development and the preservation of land values in the region. Since Indian Point 2 and 3 went into operation, local property values and the associated revenues from property taxes have continued to increase in Orange County. Filings with the New York.State Public Service Commission confirm that the Hudson Valley, particularly Orange County, receives a significant amount of energy from nuclear power.Numerous studies show that without Indian Point, there would be a significant rise in electricity prices in New York and drastic reductions in grid reliability, factors that hurt the bottom lines of all ratepayers. | Marshall &Sterling Insurance Mobile Life Support Services, Inc. | ||

Dear Sir or Madam:

As President of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, I am Niki Jones Agency, Inc.
writing to express support for the license renewal of Units 2 and 3 at Orange &Rockland Utilities, Inc.
the Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, New York. We represent Orange Regional Medical Center hundreds of businesses within Orange County and the Hudson Valley SB Credit Card Services region. It is my understanding that the NRC is considering numerous Stewart Airport/The PANYNJ issues in connection with the license renewal application, including the TD Bank effect of relicensing on land values in the area near the plants. Vanacore, DeBenedlctus, DlGovanni &Weddell The continued operation of Indian Point is vital to economic Walden Savings Bank development and the preservation of land values in the region. Since Media Partners Indian Point 2 and 3 went into operation, local property values and the Bold Gold Radio associated revenues from property taxes have continued to increase in Clear Channel Media &Entertainment Orange County. Fox Radio Group Numerous studies show that without Indian Point, there would be a Time Warner Cable Watermark significant rise in electricity prices in New York and drastic reductions Communications in grid reliability, factors that hurt the bottom lines of all ratepayers.
This would no doubt impact the businesses and industries that populate Orange County that might be forced to lay off workers, or worse, relocate elsewhere. The resulting reduction in the ability to keep and expand jobs, as well as an exodus of business, residents, and the associated capital would have serious negative implications for the local tax base and on property values. In effect, losing Indian Point would undermine the growing transportation and distribution industry connected to Stewart International Airport.

Indian Point's 2000 megawatts of generation account for 30%
New York City's electric supply, and 11% of power used statewide. It powers our homes, businesses, and critical transportation, health, and municipal systems. The loss of a key economic driver like Indian Point would deal a painful blow to Orange County. Plant closures have serious negative effects on the communities which surround them - job losses, population decreases, and degradation of the local tax base and economy.
Given these factors, a shutdown of Indian Point would have significant, long-term negative effects in Orange County and the other surrounding communities, from schools to businesses, even public safety services. I encourage the ASLB to diligently consider the many benefits that Indian Point brings to downstate New York and substantial benefits to the local economy and local land values resulting from its continued operation.
