Descri tion of Dischar e-Discharge Serial Number ill (Sewage Treatment Effluent)-On September 8, 1987, sewage was observed discharging to the intake forebay via the yard drainage system.Cause and Period of the Noncom liance-The noncompliance was caused by fouled electrodes on air ejector system.This caused the ejectors to stop operating resulting in a backup of sewage that overflowed from manholes to the yard drainage system.This discharge lasted for approximately 20 minutes with an estimated 750 gallons being discharged.

Ste s Taken to Reduce Eliminate and Prevent Recurrence of the Noncom liance-The station was operated manually to stop the discharge.

The two electrodes in the system were pulled and serviced.On October 10, 1987, a request to increase the preventative maintenance frequency to once per month was submitted.

Descri tion of Dischar e-Discharge Serial Number 107 (Unit 3 Control Building Drain)-On September 30, 1987, the discharge from DSN 107 had an oil and grease concentration of 23 mg/L exceeding the maximum permit limit of 20 mg/L.Cause and Period of the Noncom liance-A mathematical error, undetected until preparation of the Discharge Monitoring Report, indicated the oil and grease concentration was within permit limits.This resulted in no investigation of noncompliance and no immediate followup sampling.In routine samples on October 7, 1987 the oil and grease concentration was<5 mg/L and the suspended solids concentration was 2 mg/L.Ste s Taken to Reduce Eliminate and Prevent Recurrence of the Noncom liance-Normal procedure following a noncomplying sample is to resample.If the second sample is also out of limits, the sump discharge is discontinued.

The person responsible for the error has been instructed in the proper calcuation method.
