Docket No. 50-382 License No. NPF-38

Dear Sir or Madam:

On January 11, 2008, the NRC issued Generic Letter (GL) 2008-01, Managing Gas Accumulation in Emergency Core Cooling, Decay Heat Removal, and Containment Spray Systems. The GL requires a written response that addresses the issues of the GL within nine months of the GL issue date, by October 11, 2008, or a response within three months of the GL issue date, by April 11, 2008, ifthe requirements of the GL can not be meet within the nine month period.

On Wednesday, April 9, 2008, Entergy's Waterford 3 Licensing Manager, Robert J. Murillo, contacted Jerry Wermiel, Deputy Director of Safety System, by telephone and requested an additional month within which to provide the three month response. Mr. Wermiel provided a verbal approval of the extension request to May 11, 2008. This letter, as requested by Mr.

Wermiel, documents the verbal approval.

Based on Waterford 3's current understanding of the potential scope of work involved in addressing the GL, additional time will be needed to provide the 3 month response. This time is required in order to identify the scope of work and corresponding schedule in sufficient detail to make an accurate projection of when the work required to address the GL can be promptly completed.
