SUBJECT:

COMANCHE PEAX STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)

DOCKET NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 INSTALLATION OF SUPER HILTI KWIK BOLTS SDAR: CP-86-08 (INTERIM REPORT)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

On February 6,1986, we verbally notified your Mr. T. F. Westerman of a

-deficiency involving the control of stamps used to identify Super Hilti Kwik Bolts. This is an interim report of a potentially reportable item under the provisions of 10CFR50.55(e). We have submitted interim reports logged TXX-4728, TXX-4773, and TXX-4879, dated March 7, 1986, April 24, 1986, and June 27, 1986, respectively. We received an extension from your Mr. T. Westerman until August 22, 1986.

Field inspections have identified pipe support installations affected by this issue and provided documentation by Nonconformance Reports (NCR's). These NCR's have been evaluated by Engineering and determined to be acceptable "as is".

The scope of the original issue involved ASME pipe support installations. The generic implications of this issue (non-ASME applications such as cable tray hangers, structural steel, conduit supports, and electrical equipment installations) are currently being investigated by TUGC0 in response to TUGC0 Corrective Action Report (CAR) No. 074.

We are continuing our evaluation and anticipate submitting our next report by December 1, 1986.

Very truly yours, h hurg/tb t e By /
