Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Items of Interest Week Ending December 1, 2023 NRC Released New Modules in the Mission Analytics Portal - External (MAP-X) to Allow Licensees to Submit Licensee Event Reports and General Submission Information On November 16, 2023, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulations (NRR) EMBARK in coordination with the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), released new modules in the Mission Analytics Portal - External (MAP-X) that will allow licensees to submit Licensee Event Reports and General Submission Information- i.e., information that is related to licensing actions, associated hearings, forms, and other regulatory matters, through the portal. As background, MAP-X is a user- authenticated U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) managed web portal that improves the way the agency exchanges data and information between our external stakeholders by eliminating non-value-added steps in the information exchange process. Future enhancements to the MAP-X portal are ongoing.

NRC Staff Held a Hybrid Public Meeting with the Nuclear Energy Institute Regulatory Issues Task Force On November 28, 2023, the NRC held a hybrid public meeting with the Nuclear Energy Institute Regulatory Issues Task Force to discuss regulatory issues, licensing projects, innovation, and initiatives currently underway. The NRC topics included: power uprates, EMBARK activities, differing views program, Process for Ongoing Assessment of Natural Hazard Information, Enhanced Weapons rule, generic communications, issuance of Regulatory Guide 1.183 Rev. 1, Risk Informed Process for Evaluation updates, forthcoming process changes, and insight into the 2024 Regulatory Information Conference. There were over 75 NRC, industry, and public attendees. The NRC presentation slides are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) (ML23331A966).

NRC Staff Issued a Schedule Change Letter for the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, License Renewal Safety Review On November 30, 2023, the NRC staff issued a schedule change letter (ML23325A018) to modify three milestones for the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, license renewal safety review. Issuance of the Safety Evaluation will be extended from December 2023 to February 2024 to address a late-breaking operating experience issue related to leakage in the spent fuel pool liner. Also, as agreed upon by the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS), pending a Safety Evaluation without open items, unresolved items, and confirmatory items, the ACRS Subcommittee Meeting will be eliminated, and the ACRS Full Committee Meeting will be moved from June 2024 to April 2024. The target for the final decision on the renewed licenses, September 2024, remains unchanged.
