Summary of September 5, 2013, Public Teleconference to discuss Licensee use of manual calculations to perform multi-unit/multi-source dose assessment related to Near-Term Task Force Recommendation 9.3; dated September 27, 2013 (ADAMS Accession Number ML13266A407)
Ladies and Gentlemen:
On June 26, 2013, Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC. submitted information concerning the capability to perform offsite dose assessment during an event involving multiple release points at the Catawba, McGuire and Oconee Nuclear Stations (Reference 3). The NRC staff used a teleconference format to present technical issues for discussion with selected licensees regarding the initial review of the multi-unit/multi-source dose assessment submittals.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission October 28, 2013 Page 2 By an internal NRC correspondence (Reference 4), the NRC summarized the teleconference conducted on September 5, 2013, communicating the staff expectation that licensees have an automated multi-unit/multi-source dose assessment capability and requested that the selected licensees provide a voluntary response to supplement their original submittals within 30 days from the date of issuance of the meeting summary.
In response, Raddose V has the capability to perform automated and manual multi-unit/multi-source dose assessments. Therefore, procedural enhancements and training are required to ensure that Raddose V is performed in a fully automated and permanent manner. As previously stated in Reference 3, the required procedural changes and training will be implemented by December 31, 2014.
There are no regulatory commitments associated with this letter.
Please address any comments or questions regarding this matter to Paul Guill at (704) 382-4753 (paul.guill@duke-energy.com).
