Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC to Hold Public Meeting to Discuss Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant 2018 Performance Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2018 safety performance of the Grand Gulf nuclear power plant, operated by Entergy Operations, during a public meeting on April 16 in Port Gibson, Miss.

The meeting, to be held at the William Matt Ross Administration Building, board room, 510 Market St., will run from 6-7:30 p.m. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss the plants performance.

Grand Gulf, located in Port Gibson, operated safely during 2018. The NRC determined the performance at Grand Gulf during the most recent quarter was within the Regulatory Response Column, the second highest performance column of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process Action Matrix. Because of several performance issues, the plant will receive increased oversight and inspection focus during 2019.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections are performed by two resident inspectors and inspection specialists from the Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.

The annual assessment letter for Grand Gulf, as well as the notice for the meeting, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information is also available.
