No: III-16-001 January 20, 2016 CONTACT: Viktoria Mitlyng 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Monticello Nuclear Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Donald Krause as the new resident inspector at the Monticello nuclear power plant in Monticello, Minn.,

approximately 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis. The nuclear power facility is operated by Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota.

Donald Krauses experience, training and commitment to safety will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by ensuring the Monticello plant meets the high standards set by the NRC, said Region III Administrator Cynthia D. Pederson.

Krause joined the NRC Region III office in 2014 as a reactor engineer. Before joining the NRC, he was a radiation safety officer for a General Electric Hitachi site and previously held two senior reactor operating licenses from the NRC. Krause has also served six years in the U.S. Navy and is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power Program. He has a masters of engineering degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelors of science degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. Krause joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Paul Zurawski at the Monticello facility. The NRC resident inspectors can be reached at 763-295-2066.
