No: II-17-002 February 24, 2017 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Announces Senior Resident Inspector at McGuire Nuclear Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have announced that Andy Hutto is now serving as the agencys senior resident inspector at Duke Energys McGuire nuclear power plant, located near Huntersville, N.C., about 17 miles north of Charlotte.

Hutto joined the NRC in 1998 as a resident inspector at the Robinson nuclear plant near Hartsville, S.C. He later served as a resident inspector and then senior resident inspector at Duke Energys Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca, S.C. He followed that assignment with seven years as the senior resident inspector at Duke Energys Catawba plant near York, S.C.

Before joining the agency, he worked for the U.S. Navy as a civilian nuclear shift test engineer at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.

Hutto received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from Clemson University.

Andy Hutto brings a great deal of experience with Duke Energy plants to this position and his dedication to safety will help ensure the McGuire plant meets the stringent NRC regulations designed to protect the public and the environment, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.

At least two NRC resident inspectors are assigned to each U.S. commercial nuclear plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Resident inspectors can serve at one site for up to seven years.

Andy Hutto joins NRC Resident Inspector Ron Cureton, who has been assigned to the McGuire site since 2014. The NRC resident inspectors at the McGuire site can be reached at 704-875-1681.
