This is an Information Meeting with a Question and Answer Session. The purpose of this meeting is for the NRC staff to meet directly with individuals to discuss regulatory and technical issues. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the NRC staff or make comments about the issues discussed throughout the meeting; however, the NRC is not actively soliciting comments towards regulatory decisions at this meeting.

Purpose:

To discuss the REAL ID Act of 2005 and considerations specific to the use of State-issued driver's licenses and identification cards for the purpose of verifying the identity of individuals entering nuclear power plants in the U.S.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued regulations to implement the requirements of the REAL ID Act in 6 CFR Part 37, "REAL ID Driver's Licenses and Identification Cards. Enforcement of the REAL ID regulations in 6 CFR Part 37 is scheduled to begin on May 7, 2025.

This meeting is primarily intended for stakeholders implementing the personnel access authorization requirements applicable to nuclear power plants under 10 CFR 73.56(d)(3),

"Verification of true identity," and access control requirements under 10 CFR 73.55(g)(7),

"Visitors."

DHS staff will be in attendance and available to provide information and answer questions.

The NRC intends to issue a generic communication on this topic later this year.
