In accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(z), Susquehanna Nuclear, LLC (Susquehanna), in Reference 1, requested NRC approval of relief request 1RR06 associated with the fourth 10-year Inservice Testing (IST) Program interval for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Unit 1.

Relief request 1RR06 proposed relief from the requi rements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code),

2004 Edition through 2006 Addenda, Section ISTA-3120, Inservice Test Interval, sub-section (d). This relief request is a one-time extension to the end of th e fourth 10-year interval for the IST Program for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Unit 1, which is beyond the code allowed one-year cumulative extension permitted by ISTA-3120(d). Verbal Authorization for relief request 1RR06 was received on May 30, 2024, as documented in Reference 2.

Response to Request for Additional Information

On May 23, 2024, Susquehanna Nuclear, LLC (Susquehanna), submitted a relief request, 1RR06, associated with the fourth 10-year Inservice Testing Program (IST) interval for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, Unit 1 (Reference 1). Relief request 1RR06 proposed relief from the requirements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code), 2004 Edition through 2006 Addenda, Section ISTA-3120, Inservice Test Interval, sub-section (d). This relief request is a one-time extension to the end of the fourth 10-year interval for the IST Program for the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station (SSES) Unit 1, which is beyond the code allowed one-year cumulative extension permitted by ISTA-3120(d). Background===

On March 27, 2024 (ML24080A502), and March 28, 2024 (ML24080A395), NRC authorized, Alternative Requests RR01 and RR02, respectively, for the Fifth 10-Year IST Program interval starting on June 1, 2024. The applicable code for both alternatives is the ASME OM Code, 2020 Edition. Per Alternative Request 1RR06 (to extend the fourth 10-year IST Interval), the start date of Alternative Requests RR01 and RR02 for the Fifth 10-Year IST interval would be changed to June 1, 2025.

Question 1

The NRC staff requests the licensee to confirm that with the extension of the fourth 10-year IST interval as proposed in Alternative Request 1RR06, the start date of Alternative Requests RR01 and RR02 for the fifth 10-year IST interval will be June 1, 2025.

Susquehanna Response

Yes, Susquehanna confirms that with the extension of the f ourth 10-year IST interval as proposed in Alternative Request 1RR06, the start date of Alternative Requests RR01 and RR02 for the fifth 10-year IST interval will be June 1, 2025. RR01 and RR02 will be utilized for the duration of the fifth 10-year IST interval.
