Subject:

Groundwater Protection Initiative (GPI) - Voluntary Special Report for Tritium Discovered On-Site This voluntary, special report is submitted in accordance with NEI 07-07, Industry Ground Water Protection Initiative - FinalGuidance Document.

On April 17, 2015, a water sample from an on-site groundwater monitoring well was confirmed to contain a level, of tritium in excess of the NEI 07-07 voluntary reporting threshold of 20,000 picocuries per liter. This water sample was collected on April 7, 2015 from just outside of the northeast corner of the Unit 3 Turbine Building. The level of tritium measured was 37,700 picocuries per liter.

A small accumulation of water on the turbine building floor was identified as a possible source and removed. Drainage was improved to prevent future accumulation. Follow-up sampling from the well has shown a declining trend. A sample obtained on May 4, 2015, contained 9,410 picocuries per liter.

The samples were obtained from a well that is for groundwater monitoring only. This event had no impact on any on-site or off-site drinking water wells. It is possible that the water could eventually migrate into the plant's outlet canal. If so, the potential dose to a member of the public would be negligible. This will be calculated as part of the site's annual effluent report.

There are no regulatory commitments contained in this document. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Mr. Frank Leone, Chemistry, Environmental and Radwaste Manager at 717-456-3844.
