SUMMARY

OF FEBRUARY 13, 2025, PUBLIC MEETING WITH NAC INTERNATIONAL TO DISCUSS AMENDMENT APPLICATION FOR NAC MAGNASTOR DRY CASK STORAGE SYSTEM On February 13, 2025, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff from the Division of Fuel Management held a public meeting with representatives from NAC International (NAC).

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss NACs planned amendment request to propose alternative methods for helium backfill process for the MAGNASTOR dry cask storage system.

The meeting was noticed on January 28, 2025 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML25028A036). One member of the public attended the meeting. A meeting attendees list is included in the enclosure. The meeting handout (ML25041A219) is available on the NRC public meeting website.

NAC plans to submit an amendment application for approval regarding alternative methods for helium backfill process for the MAGNASTOR dry cask storage system to improve system operations and flexibility for its users and alleviate the complication associated with the current helium backfill instrumentation.

During the meeting, the NRC staff asked about the proposed language NAC plans to include in the technical specification and the type of information NAC plans to provide regarding their analysis. The NRC staff also asked whether the calculations are site/cask specific.

NAC plans to submit the amendment application in March/April 2025.
