Final Request for Additional Information - EPRI Report BWRVIP-138, Updated Jet Pump Beam Inspection and Flaw Evaluation Guidelines, Revision 2 (EPID No. L-2023-NTR-0007)

Martin Bonifanti, Constellation, BWRVIP Chairman Nathan Palm, EPRI, BWRVIP Program Manager 1300 West W.T. Harris Blvd Charlotte, NC 28262-8550 Martin Bonifanti and Nathan Palm:

By letter dated October 25, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML23298A077), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) submitted Boiling Water Reactor Vessel Internals Program (BWRVIP)-138, Revision 2, BWR Vessel and Internals Project, Updated Jet Pump Beam Inspection and Flaw Evaluation Guidelines, for U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) review.

BWRVIP-138 incorporates new crack growth and crack initiation data from BWRVIP-291, Revision 1, BWR Vessel and Internals Project, Microstructure, SCC, and J-R Fracture Resistance of Alloy X-750 and XM-19:

Final Report 2017, and updated operating experience.

By email dated January 3, 2024 (ADAMS Accession No. ML23299A287), the NRC staff accepted the BWRVIP-138, Revision 2 for review.

Based on our review, the NRC staff in the Division of New and Renewed Licenses (DNRL), Vessels Internals Branch (NVIB) has identified Requests for Additional information (RAIs). The nonproprietary version of the RAIs is available in ADAMS at Accession No. ML24183A064. The proprietary version of the RAIs were placed in NRC BOX and shared with Wynter McGruder and Nathan Palm of your staff.

The staffs request contains some proprietary materials. The proprietary contents are identified using a

(( yellow highlighted, bolded, double bracketed )) text format. Consistent with the Commission proprietary withholding criteria in 10 CFR 2.390, the staff is protecting the identified proprietary material from public disclosure. For the redacted version, publicly available version of the RAI, the protected material will be deleted from the bolded brackets (i.e., designated by a blank (( )) bracketed format).

These requests for additional information were discussed with Wynter McGruder of your staff, and a mutually agreeable date for the response is within 90 days from the date of this email.

If you have any questions, please contact me by e-mail Lois.James@nrc.gov.

Sincerely, Lois M. James, Senior Project Manger Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation (NRR)
