Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Brian Towne as the new senior resident inspector at the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant. The plant, in Oak Harbor, Ohio, is operated by Energy Harbor.

Towne joined the NRC in 2019 as part of the resident inspector development program in NRCs Region II office. While taking part in the NRCs training program, he served as the resident inspector at the Surry plant in Virginia and later as the acting senior resident inspector at the Beaver Valley plant in Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining the agency, Towne served for 14 years in naval intelligence and analysis aboard U.S. Navy submarines and 11 years as a reservist. He also worked in the nuclear industry in the areas of nuclear plant operations and fire protection.

Brian brings extensive knowledge of nuclear engineering systems to his new position, said Region III Administrator Jack Giessner. His experience in the day-to-day operations of systems and keen understanding of the positions and people who operate them make him a great addition to the resident inspector office at Davis-Besse.

Towne earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from North Carolina State University and a masters degree in business administration from University of Florida.

Each commercial nuclear power plant site in the United States has at least two resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public.
