SUMMARY
OF WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY 2023 FUEL PERFORMANCE UPDATE CLOSED MEETING (EPID L-2023-NTM-0002)
On September 20-21, 2023, a closed annual meeting between Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse) representatives and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff was held virtually in a form of teleconference to discuss Westinghouse fuel performance. On September 20, 2023, the NRC staff participated in the tour of Westinghouse Columbia fuel fabrication facility. On September 21, 2023, Westinghouse representatives presented proprietary information regarding Westinghouse fuel performance and future plans including information on the planned topical report submittals. Westinghouse representatives provided an update on the Westinghouse high energy and accident tolerant fuel program including updates on EnCore licensing plans, ADOPT' fuel, coated cladding, high burnup/high energy program, technologies to accelerate development and licensing, and licensing schedule. In addition, Westinghouse representatives provided an overview of the departure from nucleate boiling predictive modeling using machine learning technology and provided updates on the pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel performance codes and methods, boiling water reactor (BWR) fuel performance codes and methods including BWR technology roadmap, and update on TRITON11 fuel. Additional presentations included an overview of the eVinci micro reactor and updates on Cobalt-60 production in Westinghouse PWRs.
