Schedule Change for Applicability of Regulations Topical Report

Tim, This email is to inform you of a schedule change for the University of Illinois Topical Report, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign High Temperature Gas-cooled Research Reactor: Applicability of Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulations (ML23020A091). The schedule change is due to the submittal of revised Topical Report (ML23242A329) after discussions on NRC Public Meeting held June 8, 2023. The NRC staff has concluded that additional time is needed to complete the safety evaluation. The completion date will be change from December 8, 2023 to March 29, 2024. In addition, the NRC staff plans to issue a request for additional information (RAI) letter by October 20, 2023, with a request for UIUC to provide a response within 60 days. The schedule and level of effort could change due to several factors including, the need for additional RAIs, unanticipated changes to the scope of the review, and unsolicited supplements to the topical report. The NRC staff will communicate any changes to the review schedule or estimated staff hours by email, including the reason(s) for the changes.
