REVIEW OF PRE GI 021, PROPOSED GENERIC ISSUE ON BYPASSING PROTECTIVE TRIPS ON EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATORS DURING LOSS OF OFF-SITE POWER The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you of the results of acceptance review performed by the Generic Issue (GI) Program staff on the subject proposed GI that you submitted on February 7, 2022 (ADAMS Accession No. ML22048A595). Based on its review, the GI staff found that the proposed GI did not meet all of the screening criteria for the GI process specified in Management Directive 6.4, Generic Issues Program. Specifically, the proposed issue did not meet Criterion 1, the issue affects public health and safety, the common defense and security, or the environment, because the increase in risk from the scenarios described in the proposed GI falls below the threshold necessary to continue in the GI process.

Since the proposed issue did not meet all the screening criteria, the proposed issue will exit the GI process.

The following enclosures support the GI Program staffs conclusion:

  • Enclosure 1 provides the results of the screening of the issue.
  • Enclosure 2 provides a risk evaluation of the proposed generic issue for EDG protective trips.

The GI staff would like to thank you for submitting this proposed issue into the GI program for consideration. Please direct any questions you may have to the points of contact listed on this memorandum.
