REVIEW OF PROPOSED GENERIC ISSUE ON EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR PROTECTIVE TRIPS BEING BYPASSED DURING LOSS OF OFFSITE POWER CONDITIONS The proposed generic issue (GI) relating to emergency diesel generator protective trips being bypassed during Loss of Offsite Power conditions, which you recently submitted to the GI Program, has been received. This proposed issue will proceed to the next stage of the review process in accordance with the NRC Management Directive and Handbook 6.4, Generic Issues Program.

The GI initial review will be conducted by my staff after which the subject issue will be entered into the Generic Issues Management Control System for tracking purposes. There are seven specific criteria outlined, none of which can result in a negative response if the proposed issue is to be accepted as a GI in the program. The purpose of an initial review is to provide an evaluation as to whether your submittal clearly meets the generic issue criteria.

Our branch will keep you informed of the status of the activities. In the meantime, please feel free to provide any additional information which you feel is appropriate and relevant to the review. Thank you for proposing this issue for review.
