(Entergy) requested a revision to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Safety Evaluations (SEs) concerning the use of the Boiling Water Reactor Vessel and Internals Project (BWRVIP) Guidelines in lieu of specific American Society of Mechanical Engineer (ASME) Code requirements on Reactor Pressure Vessel internals and components inspection (i.e., Relief Request GG-ISI-020 for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (GGNS) and Relief Request RBS-ISI-019 for River Bend Station, Unit 1 (RBS)).
CNRO-2021/00013 Page 2 of 2 By email correspondence dated March 23, 2021 (Reference 2), the NRC provided guidance to Entergy concerning a proposed delay in NRC action on the subject relief request. This delay is necessary to complete the fuel sampling and verification of catalyst loading at GGNS that is required by BWRVIP-62-A, "BWR Vessel and Internals Project, Technical Basis for Inspection Relief for BWR Internal Components with Hydrogen Injection."
The purpose of this letter is to formally request this delay, as well as provide the details of Entergy's proposed plan to: 1) complete the fuel sampling at GGNS; 2) verify that the catalyst loading is greater than 0.1 g/cm2; and 3) document the verification in a supplemental letter to the NRC.
Entergy plans to complete the fuel sampling at GGNS no later than June 25, 2021, verify the catalyst loading no later than August 19, 2021, and provide the verification results to the NRC no later than August 26, 2021. Entergy will promptly notify the NRC of any changes to this schedule.
