NRC Pre-submittal Meeting March 30, 2021 Hope Creek Ultimate Heat Sink (UHS)
Agenda Purpose of Meeting Background of UHS TS 3.7.1.3 Proposed Scope of Changes to TS 3.7.1.3 Technical Bases Schedule Questions 2
Purpose of Meeting Proposing changes to UHS TS 3.7.1.3 to avoid future NOED requests Current TS require unnecessary shutdown for single equipment failure scenarios that are currently analyzed Sufficient margins are present in existing calculations to raise limits 3
Background of TS 3.7.1.3 TS 3.7.1.3 based on TS Amendments 106, 120 and 168 Amendment 106 LCO temperature of 85°F Added TS Action for Emergency Discharge Valves Added TS Action for all EDGs, SACS pumps and SSWS pumps to be operable above 85°F Maximum temperature limit of 87°F 4
Background of TS 3.7.1.3 Amendment 120 Increased TS action temperature of all EDGs, SACS pumps and SSWS pumps to be operable to 88°F Increased maximum temperature from 87°F to 89°F Amendment 168 Incorporated TSTF-330 temperature average Average of 89°F with peak not to exceed 91.4°F 5
Proposed Scope of Changes to TS 3.7.1.3 Revise the temperature in UHS LCO 3.7.1.3b and in TS Action for Emergency Discharge Valves from 85°F to 88°F Replace TS action to have all EDGs, SACS pumps and SSWS pumps operable above 88°F with new 72-hour AOT for one EDG, SACS pump or SSW pump inoperable Revise TS average temperature to 91°F with a peak of 93°F Revise Surveillance Requirement (SR) 4.7.1.3.b temperature from 82°F to 85°F for implementing increased monitoring frequency No changes are made to the EDG, SACS or SSWS TS 6
Technical Bases Increase in temperatures for LCO and Actions are supported by margin in the existing calculation Proposed average and peak UHS temperature are consistent with TSTF-330 Allowance of 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
action for an EDG, SACS pump or SSWS pump is consistent with single failure assumption 7
Schedule Current target for submission is April 2021 Requesting a normal review period Any Questions?
