Dear Commissioner:

This letter is in response to the proposal to relicense Westinghouse operations in Columbia, SC. In light of the community and environmental issue associated with the plant, I believe it is irresponsible to extend the license for 40 years.

We have seen many instances of environmental damage that show up gradually. The current license has seven more years to run. Even adding a license of 10 years would be generous for a facility that has such a questionable record.

A ten-year extension would give the community and the management of the facility time to prove that recommended changes have been made but not endanger the area in case serious new problems develop.
