To indicate that you have completed your assigned task return the handout sheet I provided you.

INITIAL CONDITIONS:

The Plant is shutdown for a refueling outage.

P-9B and P-41, Diesel Fire Pumps, are tagged out and not available due to contaminants in their fuel day tanks.

A fire develops in the Training Building.

Control Room alarm EK-1135, Fire System Header Lo Press, has annunciated.

Jockey Pump P-13 is operating and there are NO Service Water Booster Pumps (P-25A/B/C) in service.

INITIATING CUES:

The Control Room Supervisor (CRS) directs you to manually start P-9A, Electric Fire Pump, per SOP-21, Fire Protection System, Section 7.2.1.

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 4 of 9 Palisades April 2020 Time Start: ________

Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 1 STANDARD Grade N/A Obtain a copy of SOP-21, Fire Protection System.

Candidate simulates or describes where a copy of SOP-21 can be located.

Candidate simulates or describes pressing the START pushbutton on EC-36.

AND Identifies that P-9A is not running.

S U Comment:

Evaluator Note: Candidate may check multiple P-9A indications including noise, rotation, discharge pressure, or red indicating light ON, to identify whether pump has started or not.

Candidate may attempt to push START button again. If so, the pump does NOT respond.

Evaluator Cue: When Candidate simulates or describes pressing the START pushbutton, provide the following clues: The component identified is in the condition described.

AND P-9A has no noise, no rotation, zero discharge pressure, green light ON.

CRITICAL STEP.

PULL the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE all the way out to start pump mechanically.

Candidate simulates or describes pulling the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE all the way out to start pump mechanically.

S U Comment:

Alternate Path: Y-Begins when Candidate determines that P-9A has NOT started via the START pushbutton and the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE has to be used.

Evaluator Cue: When Candidate simulates or describes pulling the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE all the way out, provide cue: The component identified is in the condition described.

CRITICAL STEP

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 6 of 9 Palisades April 2020 Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 4 STANDARD Grade 7.2.1 b.2 ROTATE the MANUAL LATCH handle counter-clockwise in order to latch the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE.

Candidate simulates or describes rotating the MANUAL LATCH handle counter-clockwise in order to latch the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE.

S U Comment:

Evaluator Note: Pulling out the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE (larger lower handle) will cause P-9A motor to start. Rotation of the MANUAL LATCH handle (smaller upper handle) 1/4 turn in the counter-clockwise direction maintains the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE withdrawn and thus maintains P-9A running. If MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE is released prior to capturing it in the withdrawn position by the MANUAL LATCH handle P-9A motor will stop. MANUAL LATCH handle only operates 1/4 turn in the CCW direction by design and cannot be rotated in the CW direction from neutral.

Evaluator Cue: When Candidate simulates or describes rotating the MANUAL LATCH handle counter-clockwise in order to latch the MANUAL OPERATOR T HANDLE, provide cue: The component identified is in the condition described.

CRITICAL STEP

NRC EXAM MATERIAL Page 7 of 9 Palisades April 2020 Proc.Step TASK ELEMENT 5 STANDARD Grade N/A Verify P-9A running.
