Dear Mr. Cottle:
E. Jordan (MNBB3302)
SUBJECT:
REACTOR VESSEL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE LIMITS-GRAND GULF NUCLEAR STATION (GGNS), UNIT 1 (TAC NO. 71497)
By letters dated January 9, 1989 and February 28, 1989 System Energy Resources, Inc., (SERI) provided the results of the analyses of reactor vessel pressure-temperature limits based on the methods described in Revision 2 of Regulatory Guide 1.99.
These analyses were requested in Generic Letter 88-11. The results showed that the pressure-temperature limits for a period of operation of 10 effective full power years (EFPY) are more conservative than the pressure-temperature limits in the current Technical Specifications (TS) for 32 EFPY.
The letter stated that SERI will submit a proposed amendment to the operating license to change the TS limits for 32 EFPY, based on the revised method of analysis, within 60 days of the NRC approval of the method of analysis.
The NRC staff is reviewing the SERI analyses. The proposed date for submitting a TS change request is satisfactory upon condition that the latest date for submitting a proposed TS change is 9 EFPY. The present TS pressure-temperature limits should be restricted to 10 EFPY by administrative control.
Sincerely,
/5 Lester. Kintner, Senior Project Manager Project Directorate II-1 Division of Reactor Projects I/II Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation cc: See next page Vf0I (LTR.
