SUBJECT:
COMPLIANCE WITH ATWS RULE (10 CFR 50.62) ZION STATION UNIT-NOS. 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. 59160 and 59161)
.We have completed our review of the information provided by Commonwealth Edison Company-(CECO) to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of Anticipated Transients Without Scram (ATWS) Rule for Zion Station, Unit Mos. I and 2.. Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed, The. staff has concluded that, pending the final resolution of the technical specification issue, the ATWS design proposed by Ceco is in compliance with the ATWS Rule requirements of 10 CFR 50.62, Paragraph (c)(1). ~ Further, the staff's conclusion is based on the successful completion of certain human-factors engineering reviews as discussed in our Safety Evaluation.
This action completes our review on this subject.
It is expected that the implementation of these requirements will be completed by Fall 1989 for Unit I and by Spring 1990 refueling outage for Unit 2.
Also, you are requested to inform us when you have fully implemented the requirements.
