Dear Mr. Kingsley:
SUBJECT:
RUST IN LOWER CONTAINMENT. SPRAY HEAD DUE TO LEAKING ISOLATION VALVES - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1, 2 AND 3 (TAC 00454)
By letter dated December 26, 1988, the NRC staff provided an evaluation of the concerns raised in' Licensee Event Report.83-003-000 for Browns Ferry, Unit 2.
We concluded that the short-term efforts to correct. rust problems found in the lower containment spray headers were acceptable.
However, the staff requested information on long-term corrective actions concerning this problem. By letter dated March 17, 1989, the Tennessee Valley Authority provided a long-term solution to correct rust problems in containment spray headers. We find the proposed long-term solution to be acceptable.
Our Safety Evaluation supporting the conclusion is provided as the enclosure. We consider this action closed.
If you have any questions concerning this issue, please call the Browns Ferry Project Manager, Gerald Gears, at 301 492-0767.
Sincerely, Original signed by Suzanne Black, Assistant Director for Projects TVA Projects Division Office of Special Projects
