Gentlemen:
On March 14, 1989, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submitted the final ICSCC Inspection Results, including Volume 1 of the final overlay design report, for the
' Brunswick Steam Electric Plant'(BSEP), Unit 1, Refueling Outage 6.
In that-letter, CP&L committed to provide Volume 2 of the final overlay de:.ign report for BSEP-1 within 30 days of unit start-up.
This report is enclosed.
Volume'2 of the final overlay design report, " Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Unit 1 - Weld Overlay Repairs of Recirculation Inlet and Core Spray Nozzle-to-Safe-End Welds and Thermal Sleeve Attachment Welds," includes Section 6 which discusses weld overlay induced shrinkage stresses. The discussion duplicates much of'the similar discussion in Volume 1 of the report. However, the stresses contained in Tables 6-4, and 6-5 of Volume 2 are different from the stresses reported in Tables 5-2 and 5-3'of Volume 1.
The Volume 2 numbers result from refinement of the stress' calculation technique in most cases.
