FOR ENHANCED I!!SPECTION/ ATTENTION This is in response to your menorandum of April 21, 1987 concerning the use of

performance indicators at materials licensees.
With respect to draft Inspection Procedure 89100, one typographical error in section OS.01(b) was observed. The word " political" should be changed to the word " potential."
Region II supports the issuance of this inspection l
protecure; we have been using the approach specified in the procedure for some' time now.

Although we prepared the initial draft of the fuel facility performance indicators, we are not completely satisfied that we have captured the most appropriate elements. Our review is, therefore, continuing.. We will respond on this subject in the near future under separate cover. We are slso very '
interested in gaining additional insight from the other Regions in this regard.
