Dear Mr. Kingsley:
On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nucle Regulatory Commission (NRC) i* sued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, "Assuranos of Not Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core booling and Containment -
_ Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits. The NRC
' issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the not positive suction head (NPSH) available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment, heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided letters dated November 6,1997, and January 5,1998, for Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2. In response to a rerguest for c additional information dated May 22,1998,'you submitted a letter dated June 22,1998. These submittals provided the information ret;uested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your L responses and has concluded that all requested information has been provided; therefore, we consider GL 97-04 closed for these facilities.
