3) NRC Request for AdditionalInformation (RAI) Regarding the TranStor* Shipping Cask System, March 24,1997.

Dear Sir,

By letters dated July 2,1997 and October 15,1997 (References 1 and 2), SNC submitted the TranStor* Shipping Cask System Safety Analysis Report - Revisions 2 and 3 respectively, for NRC review. These revisions incorporated responses to the NRC's latest RAI questions (Reference 3) and the design information associated with the aluminum honeycomb impact limiter modification.

SNC herein requests that the NRC review of the TranStor" Part 71 license application be rescheduled. Given the recent purchase of Sierra Nuclear Corporation by BNFL Inc.,

SNC chooses to take this opportunity to re-review the submitted SAR revisions for content and thoroughness of the responses. Additionally, lessons leamed from the

VSC-24 Demand for Information review are to be incorporated as required with the lh license application submittal for the TranStor shipping cask.

Following this review and update, SNC will submit the necessary information for g
