REVISED REVIEW SCHEDULE FOR THE TRANSTOR SHIPPING APPLICATION (TAC NO. L22232)
Dear Mr. Fuller:
By letter dated December 10,1998, BNFL Fuel Solutions (BFS) notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that it would not be able to respond by December 23,1998, to the staff's second request for additional information (RAI) regarding the TranStor Shipping Cask application, as you had previously committed. BFS stated that the reason for the celay was that it wanted to ensure sufficient resources were focused on the Trojan independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation application and on an amendment to the VSC-24 Certificate of Compliance. BFS further stated that the delay would allow time to implement lessons learned during its recent response to the staff's TranStor Storage Cask RAl.
The staff acknowledges the delay and understands that BFS will submit a revised schedule for responding to the second TranStor Shipping Cask RAI no later than December 31,1938. Once received, the staff will evaluate the schedule and, if necessary, revise the schedule for completing the review of the application. The current schedule was last updated on October 30,1998.
