Subject:

Revised Schedule for the Completion of Responses to the NRC Request for Additional Information (RAI) Regarding the TranStor Shipping Cask System (TAC No. L22232) a, t

Reference:

BFS letter dated December 10,1998, BFS/NRC 98-024, Reschedule of RAI Responses Regarding the TranStor Shipping Cask System.

Dear Sir,

i By the referenced correspondence, BNFL Fuel Solutions (BFS) committed to provide by E

December 31,1998, a revised schedule for completing its re-assessment of the responses l

to the second NRC RAI for the TranStorm Shipping Cask System. BFS has determined 4

' that this revised RAI response will be submitted by February 16,1999.

' Additionally, BFS commits to submit for NRC review, the Impact Limiter confirmatory drop test results, at least two and one half months prior to TranStor Safety Evaluation Report (SER) and Certificate of Compliance (CofC) issuance, consistent with the NRC

' review timeframe of the current schedule.

i

. This revised schedule is consistent with BFS's commitment to provide a quality response, to support the license application for the Trojan Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) application, an amendment to the VSC-24 CofC for the storage of Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) Burnable Poison Rod Assemblies, and the addressing of I

VSC-24 issues identified in the NRC letter dated October 16,1998.

gl n

l BFS has reviewed this revised' schedule against the requirements of Portland General

' Electric as regards the Trojan ISFSI application, and has received their concurrence.
