WOLF. CREEK RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 88-14-INSTRUMENT AIR SUPPLY PROBLEMS AFFECTING SAFETY-RELATED EQUIPMENT (TAC NO. 71743) 1 l

,0n August 8, 1988, the NRC staff issued NRC Generic Letter 88-14 " Instrument air Supply System Preblems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment." The letter requested licensees to review NUREG-1275, Volume 2, and perform a design and operations verification of the instrument air system. The letter also re-quested that within 180 days of receipt of the letter, licensees provide a <

written response that 1 a) verifies by test that actual instrument air quality is consistent with the manufacturer's recommendations for individual components served,

  • b) verifies that maintenance practices, emergency procedures, and train-ing are adequate to ensure that safety-related equipment will function as intended on loss of instrument air, c) verifies that the design of the entire instrument air system includ-ing air or other pneumatic accumulators is in accordance with its intended function, and d) discusses your program to maintain proper instrument air quality.

By letter dated October 25, 1988 and February 3,1989, you responded to the information requested in the above items of the generic letter. In addition, your letter stated that a program to verify and maintain proper instrument air quality is being formalized as part of the surveillance program and should be implemented by March 31, 1989. This fulfills your requirement in responding to Generic Letter 88-14.
