EXPANDED INSPECTIONS OF CABLE INSTALLATION
Dear Mr. Miraglia:
The District.and NRC staff met on June 18 (NRR) and June 25, 1987 (Region V)-
to discuss the results of the latest cable inspections. As a result of these meetings, the staff requested the District to provide additional.information on the expanded inspection program. The following is the District's plan for expanded inspections following the discovery of major defects in Lot #1 of the Sampling Plan.
. Lot #1'[4241 The District will complete 1001. inspection of Lot #1. The inspection will consist of either signal tracing or hand tracing the rerouted portions of I
cables in the Lot.#1 population.
Both signal tracing and hand tracing will'be-controlled by the existing procedures.
Lot #2 [1702)
The District will signal trace an additior,al 35 cables in Lot #2, thus raising the sample size to 91 cables. No major defects have been found in the 56 cables traced to date. The additional 35 cables will bring Lot #2 sampling to the one defect level established by NRR.
Lot #3-[1901 The District has signal traced 49 cables in Lot #3, which constitutes 25.87. of 3
.the population, with no major defects.
Based on this result, the sample size
]
of Lot #3 is considered adequate.
i Lot #4 [781 Th'e 78 cables in Lot #4 have all been signal traced.
Inspection is complete, f
