Subject: NRC:RI Inspection 50-317/87-22, 50-318/87-24
This transmits the August 1 - 31, 1987 resident inspection findings by Messrs.
T. Foley and D. Trimble at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby,
Maryland. Those findings were cased on observation of activities, interviews,
and document reviews, which have been discussed with Mr. Lemons of your staff.
Due to the Operational Safety and Review Team visit (0SART) by the Inter-
national Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on August 8-28,
1987, the resident
inspection routine was modified to provide minimum impact on the IAEA team and
the licensee's resources supporting the review.
General overview of the facility during this time has shown improvements in
housekeeping,
control
room
habitability,
and
communications.
These
initiatives, combined with the sustained plant operation, are viewed as
positive trends in performance,
