Dear Mr. Miraglia:

As a result of discussions with the staff, the District has been requested to provide information on the Control Room Design Review (CRDR) Human Engineering Observations (HEO). The CRDR Summary Report was provided to the staff in December,1985. It contained 516 HE0's, of which 25 were resolved prior to the current outage and 120 were recommended to be left "as-is." In addition, 16 type "B" HE0's are being resolved during the current outage. These 16 items are included in attachment 2 of the Main Control Room (MCR) System Investigation Report (SIR). The MCR SIR is being transmitted to the NRC by separate cover letter. It is important to note that none of the 516 items identified are type "A" HE0's.

A recent review of the Control Room was performed to ensure the modifications to the Control Room have not introduced new human engineering problems. As a result of this review, 24 new HE0's have been identified. These items are discussed in the MCR SIR which is being transmitted to the staff. No type "A" HE0's were identified in this evaluation.

Therefore, at the end of this outage 379 HE0's will remain. These HE0's can, in general, be divided evenly with approximately half applying to front consoles and the remainder applying to the back panels.

A schedule for resolution of the HE0's was originally incorporated into the Living Schedule (Proposed Amendment 106). Subsequently, PA 106 has been withdrawn until after restart of the plant. However, it is expected that the HE0's for the front consoles will be resolved by the end of the Cycle 8 outage and those itens dealing with the back panels by the end of the Cycle 9 outage. At the present, conceptual design is complete for approximately 80%

of the HE0's.
