NRC STAFF SCHEDULES PUBLIC MEETING ON YANKEE ROWE PRESSURE VESSEL EMBRITTLEMENT CONCERNS The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staf f has scheduled a public meeting for Monday, July 22, to discuss with the staff of Yankee Atomic Electric Company concerns about embrittlement of the pressure vessel in the Yankee Rowe nuclear power plant. The staff also will respond to public comments and quections about the embrittlement issue.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. local time at the Rowe Elementary School on Pond Road in Rowe, Massachusetts, and is expected to conclude at 10 pm. The proceedings will be recorded and a transcript will be available to the public.

Persons wishing to make an oral presentation or ask questions at the meeting will be asked to limit their time to five minutes and are asked to notify, in advancs, Ronald Eaton of the NRC's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Washington, D.C. 205553 A telephone 301/492-3041. Elected officials will be provided the first opportunity to speak.

Handicapped persons requiring assistance to participate in the

, meeting should contact Mr. Eaton by July 15 and persons wishing to

make written statements, rather than appear in person at the meeting, may submit them to Mr. Eaton at the above address.

Af ter opening remarks, the sta f will summarize its assesseent of the condition of the Yankee Rowe pressure vessel and Yankee Atomic Electric of ficials will discuss the current status of their efforts to analyze the condition of the pressure vessel and analysis and inspection efforts planned for the future.

Following closing remarks, the remainder of the evening will be devoted to public comments and questions.
