2.0 MATERIALS 2.1 Insulated Cables All class IE cables shall be purchased by the Office of En-gineering, SQEP, unless design documents direct otherwise.

l Non class IE cable should be purchased by Office of Engi-neering, SQEP but in all cases will be coordinated through them. Cognizant engineer will coordinate the purchase or transfer of cable with OE as required.

The general requirements listed below shall govern the purchase of these components.

2.2.1 Terminals and Butt Splices Thomas and Betts Company, Amp Product Corporation, and Burndy Corporation are currently approved suppliers of terminal lugs and butt splices. Other suppliers may also be acceptable, but must likewise be approved by EN DES.

With the following exceptions, two-hole, copper compression-type terminal lugs shall be used to terminate No. 2 AWG and larger size field installed cables and say be used on smaller size cables. One-hole compression type terminal lugs may be used if the cabic size is smaller than No. 2 AWG and on larger size cables when:

For conductor size No. 10.and smaller, terminal lugs and butt splices may be non-insulated or pre-insulated (unless specified otherwise by design documents). Outside primary containment, pre-insulated lugs and splices may be vinyl, nylon, tefzel, or kynar. For use inside primary containment (see section 2.2.3.1), only tefzel and l kynar pre-insulated lugs and splices may be used.

For medium-voltage splices, 3M Company insulation splicing. kits of the proper voltage and type shall be required as shown on standard drawing SD-E12.5.3. Where waterproof splices are required, Raychem Corporation WCSF type N heat shrinkable tubing (see sections 7.0 through 7.3)--or equal subject to EN DES approval--shall be required.

Cables ties for general plant use may be of nylon as manufactured by Thomas and Betts Company, AMP Special.

Industries, Panduit Corporation, ALL-STATE, Dennison (South Eastern Associates, Inc.), or equivalent.

Stainless steel or Tefzel cable ties may also be used in general plant areas.

In a hot environment, sweat bands around the electrician's wrists will tend to prevent perspiration from accumulating on the hands. Use of sweat bands is recommended.

(b) Soldering over a connection made in accordance with section 3.1.2.a; (c) Colling the lead around a stud and using a flatwasher and nut; (d) Colling the lead around a regular screw and using a flat washer (see note below); or (e) Colling the lead around a washer head screw.

NOTE:

The washer may be omitted where two terminations are being made at the same point provided the second termination is by means of a terminal lug and the solid lead wire termination is located under-neath or behind the lug. The need for an insulating sleeve (see SD ,$12.5.6) shall be determined by Cogn Engr based upon the possibility of a lead coming into contact with ground or another conductor.

Cable shields, of medium-voltage (5-15kV) cables, should be grounded at both the switchgear end and at the equip-ment end of the run with a minimum No. 10 AWG coppe r conouctor (see Table 3.1.3) or equivalent flexible copper braid, unless design drawings specifically state otherwise.

Note:

Field to verify cable is deenergized prior to making repairs. In addition to the specific requirements associated with the use of a particular cable repair option, the general requirements below shall be followed in making cable repairs:

6.2.1.a Remove any foreign material or loosely attached portions of the damaged cable. Reposition and/or carefully trim any Jagged edges which protrude above the surface contour of the ares being repaired.

6.2.1.c After completion of repair, a cable tag, shall be installed adjacent to the repaired area containing the unique cable identifier (if it can be determined),

Cognizant engineer or his designated representative will provide associated drawings to the field for lifting and relanding of cable.

Effective August 1, 1984 use of the JRS, MRS, and WRS cable repair sleeve is limited to non-Class IE applications; af ter this date NJ2S cable repair sleeves shall be used on Class 1E cables when Option 3 is relected to make cable repairs.

Step 1 - See general requirements in section 6.2.1.

Step 2 - Apply a layer of Raychem Type N mastic in ribbon form, Raychem S-1024, or S-lll9 red adhesive tape (approximately half-lapped) for a minimum of 21/2 inches for Class IE cables and 1 1/2 inches for non-Class IE cables beyond the outermost bounds of the damaged area.

Step 4 - Apply 3 M Company Scotch 33+ tape to each end of the shield to hold firmly in place.

l Step 5 - Measure the de resistance of the shield; a reading of 0.01 ohms per foot is acceptable. If the reading is above 0.01 ohms per foot, recheck step 4 to ensure the new shield has good electrical contact with the existing shield. Remeasure the de resistance; refer to EN DES for evaluation if the value is still above 0.01 chas per foot.

If evaluation from EN DES is favorable with recorded reading cognizant engineer will note this on data sheet " REMARKS."

Step 6 - Complete by repairing the Jacket in accordance with applicable Option I through 4 in section 6.6.2.

TO RAYCIIEM HEAT SHRINKABLE PRODUCTS Raychers WCSI' is a heat shrinkable, flame retarded flexibic polyolefin tubing which is especially formulated and tested to withstand the part irular environment found in light water reactor nuclear generating stations. The qualification status of Raychem nuclear products is conditional on the substrate materials being capable of maintaining physical and seal integrity under the same conditions to which the Raychem materials are qualified. It is also required that the cable substrates to which Raychem products are applied be clean and degreased and be suitable scaling surfaces (e.g., woven Jackets or braids are unacceptable as scaling surfaces in the splice area).

7.1.2 Tubing Application Range Determine the diameters of both wires to be spliced and the dimensions of the splice hardware to be used. When splicing multi-conductor cable it is important to obtain measurements of both the individual conductors and the outer cable Jacket diameters.

Refer to applicable Electrical Stagdard Drawing (s) to determine the applicable use Range of the Raychem Product needed to accomodate the splice diameters. (i.e., SD-E12.5.6 Type N Heat Shrinkable Cable Sleeves-Table A - inside rnntainment or Tabic R - outside containment applications).

Generally, select the largest size Lubing from applicable ranxc table which accomodates the splice diameters.

After making connections, sharp edges, or protruding wire strands shall be removed using abrasive cloth (i.e.,

120 grit aluminum oxide cloth) or by a file.

Reclean or degrease as required.

Clean and degrease cable Jacket and wire insulation with a solvent such as 1,1,1 trichloroethane. All surfaces must be free of gresse, oils, moisture, or other contaminants prior to being brought into contact with Raychem products.

Slide all applicable tubing, breakouts, etc. over cable end(s) prior to making connections.

7.1.4 Inst.illation Technique Heat shrinkable components must be heated uni formly, both aircumferentially and lengthwise using an electric but air heater. Components shall be heated auth that they shr ink uni f ormly, and af ter shrinking, have a smooth shiny outer surface. When shrinking coated components,

Normally th entire length of the shim must be applied to a suitable sealing surface to maintain a 2 inch minimum seal length; however, an exception to this case arises (see SD-E12.5.8) where in some cases a shim may be required to build up individual conductors in order to meet the use range of the breakouts legs. Note: If it becomes necessary to shin the individual conductor of a multi-conductor cable for the installation of a cable breakout's legs, the minimum length of the shim should be equal to the length of the breakouts leg. In this case shins length use may vary but should extend out from the breakout legs by 1/4 inch minimum. The outer tubing (i.e. overall outer sleeve) should completely cover and overlap the shim by a minimum of 1/4 inch.

J. Slide a 3" piece of WCSF-II5-N onto the extension wire. Install extension wire connector (see figure 1). Apply LOCKTITE 271 to the screw threads to l prevent loosening. Remove all traces of epoxy from the blade surfaces.

NOTE: Do not attempt to terminate the extension wire shield inside the connector. The shield must be terminated (ungrounded) outside the connector.

Shrink the heat shrink into place per figure 1. Slide a 3-1/2" piece of RNF 100 and 3-1/2" piece of VCSF-200-N heat shrink onto the extension wire.

Connect thermocouple connector to the corresponding extension wire pair, verifying continuity to the corresponding reference junction terminals in the process. Measure and record IR (with extension wires disconnected f rom reference junction terminals).

IR must be greater than 1.9 x 10s ohms at 100 volts. Verify results and signoff inspection on Attachment III, data sheet 1.

6. Shrink the heat shrink into place per figure 1, signoff Raychem Installation on attachment III, data sheet 1.
7. Lay down the extension wires. Signoff on attachment III, data sheet 1.
8. Record test equipment used on attachment III, data sheet 1.
