Dear Mr. Chairman:
50-286 SP Along with many of my colleagues of the New York State Congressional Delegation, members of the New York City Council, individuals and organizations affiliated with the Alliance to Close Indian Point, and hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens, I am once more taking an opportunity to express my strong support for continuation of unrestricted Indian Point hearings.
As I am sure you are aware, public sentiment to shut down Indian Point has grown considerably in recent years -- par-ticularly since equipment and operating problems occur with alarming frequency.
These matters are, of course, of especial concern to over 7 million residents of New York City who live dangerously near the Indian Point facility.
Therefore, I oppose any restriction of the scope of the Commission's investigation or in the testimony it will receive.
In addition, I believe it is appropriate for the Commission to consider closing the Indian Point plants pending the outcome of the current investigation.
In summary,-I urge the Commission to pursue its hearings without restrictions and to give the most prompt and serious consideration to closing Indian Point while the investigation is in progress.
